If you love nature, Ouzoud is the highlight of the Middle Atlas. Located about 2.5 hours from Marrakech, these falls are dramatic, plunging 110 meters over tiered red cliffs into deep green pools. 'Ouzoud' means 'olive' in Berber, named for the ancient trees that shade the path. Upon arrival, you can view the falls from the top, but the real experience is hiking down. A local guide leads you on a path winding through the olive groves. At the bottom, you can cross the pool on unique, hand-operated barges—getting close enough to feel the power of the spray (and get a little wet!). As you hike back up, keep a look out for the resident Barbary Macaques. These wild monkeys are accustomed to visitors and will often pose for photos. We finish with a tagine lunch on a terrace overlooking the falls, offering one of the best views in Morocco.
